9-1Calendar Studio and themes
A theme is one set of the calendar page's paper color, date numeral color, cell shape, and event chip shape. You choose themes on the decorating screen.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Device | Where to open it |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Settings ▸ “Decorate” |
| iPad, Mac | Settings ▸ “Calendar decoration” (themes) · Settings ▸ “App UI design” (icon sets and fonts) |
On iPhone, the “Decorate” screen has the theme items at the top and the “App UI design” group below them. On iPad and Mac, the two groups are split into two rows in Settings.
Choosing which calendar to apply to
If you have a shared calendar whose theme you can change, “Apply to” appears at the very top of the screen. Choose “My calendar” or one shared calendar, then choose a theme.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| “Apply to” | Note at the bottom of the screen |
|---|---|
| My calendar | “The theme you pick applies to My calendar only. To decorate a shared calendar, choose it above. Only calendars set to Use my default theme change along with it.” |
| A shared calendar | “The theme you pick applies to this calendar only. Everyone decorating it together sees the same colors and paper.” |
A shared calendar you created has “Use my default theme”. When you choose it, that calendar has no theme of its own. The screen shows “This calendar keeps no theme of its own. It uses the theme you use on My calendar.”
“Current theme” shows a preview of the theme applied to the chosen calendar.
Choosing a preset
“Presets” has six themes prepared by Calliary. All presets are free.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Preset | Notes |
|---|---|
| Pastel mint | The theme when you first install the app |
| Pastel pink | |
| Lavender | |
| Cream mono | A one-color theme that does not color Sundays and Saturdays separately |
| Midnight | Dark paper |
| Ink wash | Dark paper |
Tap or click a theme card in “Presets”.
It applies right away to the calendar chosen in “Apply to”. The screen also says “Tap to apply it right away. Press and hold to start editing from that preset.”
In “Manage this calendar” ▸ “Decorate” of a shared calendar, tapping a preset changes only the preview. The note on the screen is “Tap to preview it. Go back to Manage this calendar and tap Save to apply it for everyone. Press and hold to start editing from that preset.” Everyone's screen changes only when you tap “Save” in “Manage this calendar”; if you tap “Cancel”, the theme stays as it was. For who can change the theme of someone else's calendar, see “7-9 Themes for shared calendars” in “Chapter 7 Sharing”.
Making your own theme
You build a theme yourself with “Design your own theme in detail” in the “My themes” group. The screen where you build it is called “Calendar Studio”.
There are two ways into Calendar Studio.
- Tap “Create your own” in “My themes”.
- Touch and hold a card in “Presets” (on Mac, right-click it) and choose “Start editing from this preset”. You start from that preset's colors and shapes.
Anyone can open Calendar Studio and preview, and saving is a Pro feature. The screen also says “Calendar Studio, where you choose the colors, shapes, and details yourself, is a Pro feature. Open it and look around — saving is what Pro unlocks.” Without Pro, tapping “Save” opens the Pro screen.
Calendar Studio is arranged from the top in this order.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Section | What you set |
|---|---|
| “Name” | “Theme name” |
| “Calendar style” | The base shape of the date cells. One of “Rounded cards”, “Ruled notes”, “Minimal lines”, or “Open space” |
| “Color palette” | Three colors: paper, ink, and accent (9-2 Color palettes) |
| “Details” | “Colors”, “Cells and grid lines”, “Weekdays and today”, “Event chips”, “Paper texture”, “MEMO” |
Under “Calendar style” is “Pick the base look for each day cell. Refine it under Details.” Tap each group in “Details” to expand it. For example, you set “Grid lines” in “Cells and grid lines”, “Weekday header” and “Today marker” in “Weekdays and today”, and “Chip shape” in “Event chips”.
When you save, if the date numerals may blend into the paper color, the “Paper and ink contrast is low” window appears. The note is “The date numerals may disappear into the background. Adjust the ink color for legibility before saving?” “Fix and save” corrects the ink color and saves. “Save as is” saves the colors exactly as you chose them.
Themes you save with “Apply to” set to “My calendar” are added to “My themes”. If you save in Calendar Studio with a shared calendar chosen, the theme is not added to “My themes” and becomes that calendar's theme. Tap a theme in “My themes” to apply it to the calendar chosen in “Apply to”. Using a saved theme is also a Pro feature.
You can save up to 10 of your own themes. When all 10 are used, “You can save up to 10 themes. Delete one to make room for a new one.” appears in place of “Create your own”. If you then touch and hold a preset (on Mac, right-click it) to start editing, the “You can save up to 10 themes” window appears.
9-2Color palettes
The “Color palette” in Calendar Studio sets the theme's three base colors. The note at the bottom of the screen is “Start from a matched set of three colors, then fine-tune paper, ink, and accent one by one.”
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Color | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| “Paper” | The background of the calendar page |
| “Ink” | Date numerals |
| “Accent” | Highlight color |
In Calendar Studio, tap or click one palette in “Color palette”. There are ten palettes: “Cream”, “Blush”, “Mint”, “Lavender”, “Sky”, “Apricot”, “Olive”, “Mono”, “Cocoa”, and “Midnight”.
The paper, ink, and accent colors change to that palette all at once.
Tap or click the “Paper”, “Ink”, and “Accent” rows one at a time to adjust the colors.
Tap or click “Save”.
“Colors”
In “Details” ▸ “Colors”, you set the date numerals and weekend colors separately.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Item | What you choose |
|---|---|
| “Date numerals” | “Auto” (a color readable on the paper color) or “Custom” (choose a “Date numeral color”) |
| “Highlight weekend colors” | When on, choose a “Sunday color”, “Saturday color”, and “Holiday color” |
| “Lunar and annotation color” | “Auto” or “Custom” (choose an “Annotation color”) |
| “Spotlight” | A deep color used for main buttons and highlights. “Auto” or “Custom” |
When “Highlight weekend colors” is on, a holiday is colored with the “Holiday color” even when it falls on a Saturday.
When you turn on “Show Sundays and holidays in red, Saturdays in blue” in Settings ▸ “Calendar display”, weekend colors turn on in every theme, and if a theme has Sunday, Saturday, or holiday colors you chose yourself, those colors are used (“3-5 「Calendar display」 settings” in “Chapter 3 The calendar screen and display settings”).
Editing color palettes without Pro
When a friend invite gift unlocks “Edit Color palette”, you can choose and save colors in Calendar Studio without Pro. Calendar Studio then shows “Choosing colors is open to you. Shapes and details are Pro.”, and “Calendar style” and “Details” are locked. The conditions for receiving the gift are in “17-6 Color palettes you can unlock for free” in “Chapter 17 Free and Pro”.
9-3Fonts
You choose the font for the calendar's date numerals, weekdays, and labels in “Font” under “App UI design”. The note at the bottom of the screen is “Used for the date numerals, weekday header, and labels.” This font applies the same way on every calendar and every theme.
On iPhone, open Settings ▸ “Decorate”. On iPad and Mac, open Settings ▸ “App UI design”.
Tap or click the “Font” row.
Tap or click a font in the list. “Theme default” at the top is the font the current theme originally uses.
The list has, in order, “Theme default”, “Recently used”, fonts that match the device language, and “All fonts”.
Free fonts and Pro fonts
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Font | Free / Pro |
|---|---|
| The 24 Korean fonts in the app and the default font | Free |
| Fonts for other languages | 5 free in each set, the rest Pro |
| Fonts in “More fonts to download” | Pro |
Pro fonts have a lock and a “Pro” mark. Below the list is “Pro opens every font. Fonts you've already used stay just as they are.” After Pro ends, calendars, notes, and diary entries drawn with fonts you already used keep those fonts. You can no longer choose new Pro fonts.
Fonts to download
Fonts that are not in the app are downloaded in sets from “More fonts to download” below the list. The note is “These fonts aren't in the app. Get only the sets you need, and delete a set anytime — notes that used it fall back to the default font.”
In “More fonts to download”, tap or click “Get” for a set. Downloaded fonts are Pro, so without Pro, tapping or clicking “Get” opens the Pro screen.
While downloading, you can stop with “Stop”.
When the download finishes, that set's fonts appear in the list.
If there is a set that matches your device language, “These fonts match your language.” appears.
If the download fails, one of these messages appears: “Connect to the internet to get these fonts.”, “There isn't room to save the fonts.”, “The download arrived damaged. Try again.”, “The download stopped. Try again.”
Using fonts installed on your device
Tap “Choose from installed fonts” below the “Font” row to choose from fonts you installed on the device yourself.
Fonts for notes and the diary are chosen separately in “Font” on each editor screen (“8-4 Notes” in “Chapter 8 Decorating (Pro)”, and “Chapter 6 Diary”).
9-4Icon sets and App UI design
“App UI design” is the group that sets the look of the app screens themselves, not the calendar page. The note at the top is “These apply to the whole app, on every calendar.”
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Item | What it sets | Devices that show it |
|---|---|---|
| “Icon set” | The icon art in the header, the decorating tools, and Settings | iPhone, iPad, Mac |
| “Font” | The font for date numerals, weekdays, and labels (9-3 Fonts) | iPhone, iPad, Mac |
| “Drawing” ▸ “Draw with your finger too” | Whether you can also draw pen drawings with your finger | Devices that support pen drawing (iPad) |
| “Feedback” ▸ “Vibrate when I tap” | Vibration when you tap buttons | iPhone |
Choosing an icon set
Tap or click the “Icon set” row. The current icon set's name and sample icons appear.
In the list that opens, tap or click an icon set card.
Tap or click “Done”.
The note on the screen says that only the icons in the header, the decorating tools, and Settings change.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Icon set | Free / Pro |
|---|---|
| Pink pastel · Dark pastel | Free |
| Mint pastel · Lavender pastel · Gradient · Classic · Modern office · Mono pictogram · Liquid Glass | Pro |
Pro icon set cards have a “Pro” mark. Tapping one without Pro opens the Pro screen.
Using dark icons in dark mode
Below the list is “Use dark icons in dark mode”. When it is on, the note reads “In dark mode the icons switch to the dark pastel set.” If you chose Liquid Glass, “Liquid Glass already adapts to dark mode, so this set stays as you picked it.” appears and this switch is dimmed.
Drawing with your finger and vibration
The note for “Draw with your finger too” is “Off by default, so your finger scrolls and pans while the Apple Pencil draws.” Turn it on to draw without a Pencil.
The note for “Vibrate when I tap” is “Buttons give a light tap back. Turning this off keeps the press animation and stops the vibration.”
9-5Dark mode
Whether Calliary's screens are light or dark is chosen in “Appearance” at the top of Settings ▸ “Calendar display”.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| “Appearance” | Screen |
|---|---|
| “Light mode” | Always light (the starting state) |
| “Dark mode” | Always dark |
| “Match device” | Follows the device's light or dark setting |
The note on the screen is “Light is the default. Match device follows your device's appearance setting.”
In dark mode, the app screens such as the header, buttons, sheets, and decorating tools turn dark. The calendar page and the diary paper keep the theme's light colors even in dark mode. Widgets, year view previews, and calendars exported as images use the same light colors.
