13-1Kinds of widgets
Calliary has eight widgets. Their names and sizes in the widget gallery are as follows.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Widget name | What it shows | Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| “Calliary Calendar” | The small widget shows today's date, the number of events, and stickers placed this month. Medium and larger show this month's decorated calendar as it is | Small, medium, large, extra large |
| “Calliary Text Calendar” | A month of events as text. Each day shows its event titles | Medium, large |
| “Calliary Upcoming” | Upcoming events by date. The larger the widget, the further ahead it reaches | Small, medium, large, extra large |
| “Calliary One Page” | One diary page with the calendar and MEMO, plus today, weather, the next event, and this month's to-dos | Large, extra large (large on Mac) |
| “Calliary Countdown” | The days left until an event you choose, in large type | Small, medium, large |
| “Countdown Counter” | The days left until a date you type yourself | Small, medium |
| “Calliary Cycle” | Your next expected period and today's cycle status | Small, medium, large |
| “Calliary at a Glance” | On the Lock Screen, the next event, today's event count, and the D-day of an upcoming anniversary | Lock Screen (iPhone, iPad) |
The extra large size is available only on iPad and Mac. “Calliary at a Glance” is a Lock Screen widget, so it is not on Mac.
The description of “Calliary Text Calendar” says “Draws the month with words instead of a picture, so every event title stays readable — handy on Mac and on small widgets.” It does not draw stickers, pen drawings, or MEMO. Use the arrows on both sides of the title to move up to 6 months back or forward, and tap or click the title to return to this month. After midnight that day, the widget returns to this month. If you place two “Calliary Text Calendar” widgets of the same kind, size, and calendar, they move together.
“Calliary Cycle”: “It appears once you turn on Cycle in the app.” If you have not turned on cycle tracking, only a guidance message appears (“14-1 Turning it on” in “Chapter 14 Cycle tracking”).
Holidays and weekend colors in widgets
Widgets also draw holiday date numerals in the holiday color. How the color is decided depends on where it is drawn, as in the table below. Holidays follow the “Holiday region” chosen in the app (“3-6 Holidays, lunar dates, and weather” in “Chapter 3 The calendar screen and display settings”).
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Where the widget draws it | How the color is decided |
|---|---|
| The decorated calendar image (“Calliary Calendar” medium and larger, the calendar in “Calliary One Page”) | It is the same image as the app's calendar, so the date numeral colors follow the theme. When the theme's weekend color highlight or “Show Sundays and holidays in red, Saturdays in blue” in Settings ▸ “Calendar display” is on, holidays and Sundays use the theme's holiday and Sunday colors, and Saturdays use the Saturday color |
| Places drawn as text (the weekday row of the small “Calliary Calendar” and of “Calliary One Page”, “Calliary Text Calendar”, the small calendar in “Calliary Cycle”) | Regardless of the theme, Sundays and holidays are red and Saturdays are blue |
The medium “Calliary Calendar” has narrow cells, so it does not include holiday names and only colors the holiday date numerals as in the table above. Large and larger sizes also show holiday names. A Saturday that is a holiday is red, not blue.
The decorated month previews in the year view also color holiday date numerals by the same rule as the decorated calendar image (“3-1 Changing months and years, and the year view” in “Chapter 3 The calendar screen and display settings”).
13-2Adding to the Home Screen and Lock Screen
The steps for adding a widget on iPhone and iPad are also in the app, under Settings ▸ “About” ▸ “Widget guide”.
Home Screen
On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty spot with no app until the icons jiggle.
Tap + at the top left of the screen to open the widget gallery.
Search for Calliary at the top, or find it in the list, and tap it.
Swipe to choose the widget kind and size, then tap “Add Widget”.
Lock Screen
Touch and hold the Lock Screen.
Go to “Customize” ▸ “Lock Screen”.
Tap the widget area and add “Calliary at a Glance”.
The app's guidance is “Press and hold the Lock Screen, go to Customize and then Lock Screen, and tap a widget slot to add Calliary. Your next event and the countdown to an anniversary show up right on the Lock Screen.”
Mac desktop
On Mac, you use seven widgets, all except “Calliary at a Glance”, as desktop widgets. The Mac app has no “Widget guide” screen.
When widgets update and what opens when you tap or click them
When you change events or decorations in the app, the widgets are redrawn too. A widget showing a shared calendar is redrawn without opening the app even when the other person changes an event, and it catches up within about 1 hour at most.
Tapping or clicking a widget that shows a calendar opens the calendar chosen for that widget.
13-3Choosing the calendar for a widget
Each widget has its own calendar and its own items to show. You can also place the same calendar side by side, once decorated and once plain.
Touch and hold a Calliary widget on the Home Screen.
Tap “Edit Widget” in the menu.
Tap an item that appears below the widget to change it.
The items you can change differ by widget.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Widget | What you set in “Edit Widget” |
|---|---|
| “Calliary Calendar” | “Calendar” · “Show cycle info” (on at first) · “Show stickers & deco” (on at first) |
| “Calliary One Page” | “Calendar” · “Layout” · “Show cycle info” (off at first) · “Show stickers & deco” (on at first) |
| “Calliary Text Calendar” · “Calliary Upcoming” · “Calliary at a Glance” | “Calendar” |
| “Calliary Countdown” | “Event” (the event to count down to) |
| “Countdown Counter” | “Year”, “Month”, “Day” · “Title” · “Subtitle” · “Font” · “Background” |
| “Calliary Cycle” | Nothing to change |
In “Calendar”, choose “My calendar” or one shared calendar. At first it is “My calendar”.
When you turn off “Show stickers & deco”, the calendar becomes a plain one without stickers and drawings. On the small “Calliary Calendar”, the sticker row is removed.
“Layout” in “Calliary One Page” has two options.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| “Layout” | Look |
|---|---|
| “Split” (the starting state) | “A big calendar with today's info beside it” |
| “Page” | “The calendar and MEMO as one diary page” |
“Show cycle info” matters only for people who turned on cycle tracking in the app. When you turn it off, the cycle display is removed from that widget. For how to hide the word period on the Lock Screen and in widgets, see “14-7 Notifications and hiding Lock Screen text” in “Chapter 14 Cycle tracking”.
13-4The Apple Watch app
Calliary on Apple Watch is an app for viewing the events and to-dos of Calliary on your iPhone from your wrist. Every feature of the watch app works without Pro. On the watch you only view events and to-dos; you edit them on iPhone. The one thing you can record on the watch is your period log.
The watch gets its content from your iPhone nearby. If you are signed in to iCloud on the watch, it gets events even without your iPhone.
Home screen
When you open the watch app, the title at the top shows the name of the calendar you are viewing, followed below by these items in order.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Order | Content | When you tap it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Today's date, the holiday name if today is a holiday, and the next event | Today's event list |
| 2 | One cycle line, if cycle tracking is on | Period log screen |
| 3 | Today's events | The day of that event |
| 4 | “Upcoming” (up to 3 per day) | That day |
| 5 | “See all events” · “This month's to-dos” · “See the decorated calendar” · “Switch calendar” · “Settings” | Each screen |
“Switch calendar” appears only when you have a shared calendar. “See the decorated calendar” shows the image of this month's calendar decorated on iPhone. “This month's to-dos” shows the remaining to-dos, and when they are all done, “All done” appears.
On the period log screen, you record only whether you had your period that day and the flow. Details are in “Chapter 14 Cycle tracking”.
Watch settings
In “Settings” in the watch app, you set the following.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Item | Content |
|---|---|
| “Main calendar” | The calendar shown on the watch home |
| “Upcoming” | How many days ahead to show. 3 days, 7 days (the starting state), or “All” (all 8 weeks that iPhone sends) |
| “Hide finished events” | Hides events that have already ended from today's list (off at first) |
| “Cycle” | Shown as “Shown” only when turned on on iPhone |
| “Week start” | The value set on iPhone |
| “Refresh now” | Gets the content from iPhone again |
Under “Week start” and “Cycle” it says “Set on your iPhone.”
13-5Watch face complications
When you place a Calliary complication on a watch face, you see events and dates without opening the app. There are ten complications.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Name | What it shows | Shapes you can place |
|---|---|---|
| “Today's date” | “Shows the weekday and the day number on your watch face.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “Next event” | “Shows the time and title of your next event.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “Today's event count” | “Shows how many events today holds.” | Circular |
| “Countdown” | “Add an anniversary or an event and this counts down to it.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “This month's to-dos” | “Shows how many to-dos are left this month and what comes first.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “Calliary Cycle” | “Turn on Cycle on your iPhone and your current cycle shows here as a dial.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “Next holiday” | “Counts down to the next public holiday on your calendar.” | Circular, rectangular, corner, inline |
| “Diary streak” | “Shows how many days in a row you have written. Only the number travels to your watch — never what you wrote.” | Circular, rectangular, inline |
| “Decorated month” | “Puts the month you decorated on your watch face. On tinted faces it draws a small calendar grid instead.” | Rectangular |
| “Cally today” | “Cally watches over today's events and to-dos, and rests when they're all done.” | Circular, rectangular |
What opens when you tap one
When you tap a complication, the watch app opens the screen that complication shows.
If the table is wider than the screen, swipe sideways to see all of it.
| Complication | Where it opens |
|---|---|
| “Today's date” · “Today's event count” · “Cally today” | Today's events |
| “Next event” | The day of that event (with the event highlighted) |
| “Countdown” · “Next holiday” | That day |
| “Decorated month” | The image of this month's decorated calendar |
| “This month's to-dos” | This month's to-do list |
| “Calliary Cycle” | The period log screen (when cycle tracking is on on iPhone) |
| “Diary streak” | The first screen of the watch app (the watch has no diary screen) |
Holidays and weekend colors in complications
The date line of a complication draws Sundays and holidays in red and Saturdays in blue. A Saturday that is a holiday is red. Holidays follow the “Holiday region” chosen on iPhone, and holidays are colored up to 8 weeks ahead, the range iPhone sends. These colors are the same regardless of the theme.
